Reliance Jio is Starting Home Delivery of SIM Cards

Reliance Jio will be kicking off home delivery of SIM cards starting tomorrow across major cities in India. Read on for more details.

Amidst all the hullabaloo surrounding demonetization in India, Reliance Jio had sort of lost the hype surrounding it, not to mention the constant dip in data speeds. Instead of queuing up for the SIM cards, people are now queuing up near banks to withdraw/deposit cash. And it’s the right time for Reliance Jio to start the home delivery of SIM card that they promised a few weeks back.

Starting tomorrow, i.e 16th November, Jio is kicking off a campaign across platforms including Facebook where users will be able to sign up for the home delivery of SIM cards. As per the TRAI directive, one person is entitled to hold a maximum of 9 SIM cards. Reliance Jio will let users schedule the time for the home delivery and will send the personnel to complete e-KYC based on Aadhaar.
As per our sources, the home delivery of Jio SIM campaign will initially kick off in major metros like Delhi and Mumbai, and will slowly roll out to other cities in India.

Ever since the company announced the Jio Preview Offer, there has been unprecedented demand for the procural of Jio SIMs, and the demand hit the roof when Mukesh Ambani announced free voice calls and free data under the Welcome offer by opening up the network for everyone back in September. Since then the demand has subsided and it’s imperative for Jio to start home delivery of SIMs to the minuscule part of the population which has resisted the temptation to stand in a queue to get a free SIM.
The free Jio Welcome offer will go on till December 31st post which Jio is expected to start its commercial operations, provided the POI issue is sorted out by then. There are reports that Reliance might push the free welcome offer till March 31st if the incumbents don’t provide enough POI for seamless voice calling to and fro Jio network.
Although it’s unique and a welcome move to provide home delivery and e-KYC authorization for free Jio SIMs, Reliance has a job cut out to bring back the constant dip in speed and network quality ever since they opened up the network under Jio welcome offer. It will also be interesting to see how many people would retain their SIM cards and convert to paying customers once the commercial launch happens.
